Hidden down a lane on the edge of Bentworth Village in Hampshire, The Sun Inn is a pretty flower-adorned and unspoilt rural free-house dating back to the 17th century when it was a pair of traditional cottages.

The landlady Mary Holmes has been at the Sun for the past 13 years and has ensured the pub has kept its original character. The brick and board floors are laid with a rustic mix of scrubbed pine tables, benches and settles, the original beams are hung with sparkling horse brasses, while the walls are adorned with plates and prints depicting the history of the village of Bentworth.

Nestle in front of one of the three crackling log fires warming each of the interlinked rooms. Peruse a magazine, enjoy the fresh flowers and relax in a cosy candlelit atmosphere with friendly helpful service.
A thriving free house, the Sun offers a selection of real ales from around the local Hampshire area all on hand pump. These include Andwells Resolute, Hogsback T.E.A, Bowman's Swift One and Ringwood Best. As well as local real ales there is a wide range of guest beers including Fuller's London Pride, Timothy Taylor's Landlord, and Sharps Doombar, plus many more regular favourites.

As well as The Sun's charm and extensive range of real ales and lagers, this freehouse really comes into its own by serving hearty home-cooked dishes that make a trip to this pub well worth the visit. Dishes range from ploughman's lunches, home-made soups and sandwiches to more filling options such as beer-battered cod, calves liver and bacon, tiger prawns and scallops in garlic butter, steak and Guinness pie, and half-shoulder of lamb with redcurrant and mint jelly. Game is also served in season including venison, partridge and pheasant.

If that is not enough to fill you up indulge in some of the home-made puddings like apple and rhubarb crumble, warm chocolate brownie, sticky toffee pudding, banoffee pie or strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake.

When visiting The Sun Inn you will be sure to receive a warm and friendly welcome from Mary and her team.
